Joe Abercrombie has shared his thoughts on the David Gemmell Legend Awards process.

"But I’m getting increasingly worried about the voting process, which is purely by internet poll.  Or in fact by two – one to establish a shortlist, another to decide the winner."

Tis an interesting read and and a much better use of your time than watching the above trailer Gollancz released for 'A Red Country'.

Nightshade Books currently has a 50% sale going on if you order four or more books. They also have a lifetime subscription for $2000! Might want to get a health check up first to make sure you'll be around to make it worth it. You can also view their entire 2012 line up HERE.

Sean the Bookonaut blogs about "Implicit racism in Game of Thrones".

"Contrast the book excerpt – a conversation between two white men in a bar.  The tone is jovial.  Saan is being vulgar but there is no hint that getting the queen is a driving ambition.

with

A black man who is making sexual possession of the queen a condition of his signing on.  He’s quite forceful about it too, underlining it with reference to racial features like blonde queen.  With the GoT Saan it’s all about the sex."

Now he may have a point with the above but not to be rude, he can take the whole "blinded by privilege" crap and shove it back up his arse.

Random House have extended Audio samples for download. Some good books worth sampling.

That is all.

Abercrombie's on the money with his comments about the Gemmell, but it's a popularity vote, so what can you do? The Hugos because they have an entry fee for voting (although you do get way in excess of $50 worth of reading material for that fee) tend to have more of a discerning vote. It is also a popularity contest though, and I'll be really surprised if Dance doesn't win, whether or not it is the best book in the field.
